BIOGRAPHY
Liz Wrighton graduated with a BMus(Hons) from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, having won the Conservatoire Woodwind Prize, been a National Finalist in the Lyons European Young Musician Competition, received funding from the Royal Philharmonic Society Sir John Barbirolli Memorial Foundation, and been awarded the Birmingham Conservatoire Scholarship and Meg Rivers Prize at the Stratford International Flute Festival.
She now works across the Midlands as a freelance flautist and educator. Liz currently teaches at Junior Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Stratford Grammar School for Girls, and for Services for Education Music Service, where she has been involved in a project with the One-Handed Musical Instrument Trust since 2015. She has a PGCE in Primary and Early Years, and worked as a music subject lead in Sandwell for a number of years. She is the Education Consultant for Midlands based Boutique Recording, and is a trained Arts Award Advisor.
Liz founded Tonic Arts, an organisation aimed at engaging young people in quality music making, something she is passionate about. To date this has included running instrument days, organising concerts for young woodwind players, and establishing the Tonic Arts Flute Ensemble, which gives aspiring flautists the opportunity to rehearse and perform alongside professional musicians.
When not at work, Liz loves walking in the Malvern Hills where she lives, having a cuppa and a good chat with family and friends, and eating tasty food!
